Publications have been my mainstay. The beauty and power of type and images is something that came to me young. A love for the written word and photography had a natural conclusion in magazine design. Though magazines are certainly in transition, they are certainly not expired—what happens next will be interesting.

While a career in magazine design was the focus, I also had a deep love of teaching and graphic design.

I am a fan of inspiration—I was constantly looking at magazines, newspapers, books, and any printed material for inspiration. And I found it.

Type in particular attracted me. A curious attraction, but I would often go to lunch with a type book sample. The history of type, its evolving record of human communication, its changing shapes and configurations would endlessly be fascinating. To that end, visiting Père Lachaise Cemetery outside of Paris, I would be the one who recognized and lingered at the family plot of of Didot (the creators the font, Didot).

I discovered teaching and it was the gift that kept on giving. Students would reveal the current trends and aspirations of their generation. I was taught more often than teaching. It was a joy, a privilege to teach dedicated students of graphic design.
